Feb 22, 2018
Today is National Cat Day in Japan - in the land of everything from Hello Kitty to cat cafes it’s not much surprise that there’s a day dedicated to our feline friends. It has been celebrated since the 80’s on this date, and the reason it’s celebrated on February 22nd is 2/22, and nyan (Japanese for meow!) and ni sound somewhat similar.
If you’re a cat lover and you have an Instagram accounts, one of my favorites to follow is rinne172. This cat is probably the most tolerant on the planet, and is regularly dresssd up in themed outfits to celebrate various Japanese holidays and the like. It’s an account that puts a smile on my face - and hopefully yours, too! Over 100,000 followers can’t be wrong!
After spending the last several years in the beating heart of Tokyo, I will be spending the next three in the countryside of Japan. I adore this country and all it has to offer - and I'm always learning more and more about life here as I go along!
