This product is a special castella cake which was purchased from my local 7-11 store for 151 yen (including tax). What makes this castella unique is that it uses egg yolk and egg white in a 5: 3 ratio.
The good
I mainly got this for my husband who is a castella cake aficionado, but I did have a couple of bites myself! This castella has quite a rich, indulgent taste compared to some other castella I've tried, and I chalk that up to the fact it uses a ratio of 5 egg yolks to three egg whites. The cake itself has a really nice fluffy-yet-dense texture, and I think it's definitely worth a try if you're a castella fan. My husband loved it! Price-wise, I also felt the cake was very reasonable on the wallet at 151 yen including tax.
The not so good
I didn't have much to complain about with this product, but for people who like more "interesting" cakes (different fillings, textures, and so on) you may find this a little bland. Other than that minor point to note, I think this is a great tasting product which will definitely appeal to castella cake fans. The budget friendly price point makes it an easy option to try out, as well. As it's only a limited time style of castella, I recommend popping in to your nearest 7-11 soon to see if it's still in stock!
