How much are you spending for Valentine's Day (if anything?)

I saw a press release this morning from Sogo & Seibu Co., Ltd., which covered results from a recent Valentine's Day survey they conducted. They polled 1,133 people (of which 94.5% were women) about their shopping habits for the loved-up celebration, and I thought some of the finance-focused stats might interest the community here.

The bulk of survey respondents (43%) planned to spend under 5000 yen, with 26.8% going a little higher at 5001 yen to 10,000 yen. Only 0.6% of respondents were planning to spend over 50,001 yen, which I can understand -- that's a lot of money, and comes close to paying my rent for the month.

My husband and I don't really opt to buy each other stuff for Valentine's Day anymore, so we would absolutely be in the under 5000 yen category.
