The most popular hot pot dishes in Japan

Today, BigFamJapan added a question to the Q&A section of the site about our favorite hot pot dishes in honor of November 7th being "Nabe no hi" or Hot Pot Day. 

Our favorite as a household is probably shabu shabu, but I was curious if there was any data about hot pot rankings and what is the most popular across Japan.

It can be hard to pick a favorite, but Panasonic's rankings give an idea of what the general population likes best! Image created via Canva

I found this study online from Panasonic, which was conducted last year (2024), but I do think it's interesting to look at how hot pot dishes were ranked! The top spot when to Kimchi Jjigae, then chanko nabe, sukiyaki, yosenabe, mizutaki, and then shabu shabu (my fave) only coming in 6th.
