A Dull Silver Week

For my family and myself, it has been a fairly dull Silver Week. A few things meant that we didn’t really do a whole lot. 

First, most notably, there was the flu. My younger child was diagnosed with influenza A just before the holidays kicked off, and my husband had caught it by Monday. My elder child and I have not seemed to have it yet, or perhaps more accurately, not fully - we both have had respiratory symptoms.

Secondly, there was the weather. We definitely felt Typhoon 25 out here with lots of heavy rain and some quite scary winds. Chiba is still recovering from the disastrously heavy rains we had in August, so it is that bit more likely that things will go awry when more overly wet weather happens. There was a lot of rain over the weekend, and the typhoon itself arrived on Monday. Monday was quite heavy on emergency alerts for both excessive rainfall and potential landslides. We were fine, but it wasn’t a day for venturing out and about.

Finally, there was an issue that would have been an issue regardless of the other two problems - I am very, very tired. The stretch of work between the summer holidays and Silver Week is always exhausting, and this year was not an exception. What I wanted and needed was a rest.

A genuine Silver week doesn’t come around all that often, which makes it a little disappointing that we didn’t get to enjoy this one more. Staying home for five days aside from short walks and supermarket/convenience store runs isn’t very exciting, but for all the things that went wrong, it hasn’t been terrible. There’s always next year (sort of).
