Happy Birthday Donald Duck!
On this day, June 9th, in 1934, Donald Duck appeared on screens for the first time ever, in the short film The Wise Little Hen. Not only did it mark his official screen debut, but it established his "birthday". Although, there are alternative dates that people theorize is his birthday, the June 9th anniversary is the most embraced and it is the one Disney themselves recognize and celebrate.
In Japan, Donald has long been one of Disney’s most beloved characters, admired for his flawed yet endearing personality with his short temper, stubborn charm, and unmistakable voice. This 'realness' resonates strongly with Japanese fans, contributing to his enduring popularity. And his long spanning career is also admired. I don't know how true it is, but I read that Donald Duck has had more starring roles than even Mickey Mouse.
Tokyo Disney Resort celebrates his birthday every year with special merchandise and limited‑time events at both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, turning the day into a cheerful mini‑festival for Donald’s devoted followers. Donald’s birthday invites guests to honor a character who continues to bring humor, energy, and a little bit of chaos to generations of fans.

Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
