A Day for Vanilla Yogurt

A Day for Vanilla Yogurt photo

Today, and August 24th annually, is Vanilla Yogurt Day バニラヨーグルトの日 in Japan. August 24th, 8/24, was chosen as the date of the commemoration because it can be read as "Va (8) ni (2) la yo (4) gurt". The anniversary was created by "Luna", the company behind one of the best known and most popular vanilla yogurts on the market, pictured.

Nihon Luna’s Vanilla Yogurt has been sold since 1993, gaining popularity for its ice‑cream‑like flavor and rich, mellow taste. Its smooth texture comes from long fermentation and the addition of fresh cream, which gives it a gentle, dessert‑like finish. It comes in other flavors too. I noticed in the supermarket today that they have banana flavor too and I know they have seasonal varieties.

Luna also does collaborations with other companies. For example, Beard Papa. For the last few years, Beard Papa releases a Luna Yogurt flavored choux each summer. I did try it earlier in the summer but haven't got around to reviewing it yet. Unfortunately, the collaboration has since ended, on August 8th, but I imagine it will be back again next year.
