The description
This product is cafe-au-lait flavored konjac (Konnyaku) jelly designed to be frozen, with a creamy coffee milk flavor. There are ten individual pouches in the pack.
The good
This is one of Orihiro's 'premium' konnyaku / konjac jelly products. They have a wide range. This is also one that can be frozen - not all of them are specifically designed for freezing, but this one is. What I like about the ones that you can freeze is that they offer a dual purpose in a bento boxed lunch. One, they help keep the temperature of the bento chilled. And two, they are a nice little sweet treat add on for a bit of flavor and color in the bento box. The coffee and milk balance is gentle and creamy, giving it the feel of a chilled café drink in bite‑sized form. As part of the Premium Café line, it genuinely tastes more refined than standard konjac jelly. There are ten in the pack which is useful for sharing and for larger families.
The not so good
Although, there are ten in the pack, because each pouch is quite small, they don't last very long. Not in my household anyway! The price varies greatly between supermarkets and drug stores. I paid 188 yen for this pack, which works out at less than 19 yen per pouch, which is marginally cheaper than average. Most work out at 20 yen per pouch. (Prices before tax). The café‑au‑lait flavor may feel too mild for those who prefer a stronger coffee profile, leaning more toward sweet milk than bold roast. Because it’s a frozen jelly, the texture can vary depending on freezer temperature, sometimes becoming too firm or losing smoothness.
