The description
This product is a pack of ten pouches of konjac jelly that were designed to be freezer friendly. This is the vanilla flavor, one of the "Premium Cafe" range by Orihiro.
The good
Orihiro’s Premium Vanilla Frozen Ice is a surprisingly satisfying little dessert. The vanilla flavor is gentle and creamy, with a soft sweetness that feels refreshing rather than heavy. The icy jelly texture melts smoothly, making it perfect for hot days or for keeping bento chilled with the help of a sweet treat. One of the things I like most about konjac jelly is that the packs are designed so that you have to push the jelly out little by little rather than sucking them straight out, thus reducing the risk of choking. And the opening where you push them out is particularly small on this Premium Vanilla flavor range. Nice packaging, low calories and ten in the pack, add to the appeal.
The not so good
Although there are ten in the pack, the individual pouches (portions) are very small so they are consumed quickly. A pack can disappear quite quickly, especially with children. The price varies greatly between supermarkets and drug stores. I paid 188 yen for this pack, which works out at less than 19 yen per pouch, which is marginally cheaper than average. But considering this is one of the "premium" range, and most regular konjac pouches work out at 20 yen per pouch, it's not a bad price overall. (Prices before tax).
