Not quite halfway through the year on "Half-time Day"

There is an unofficial commemoration on June 30th in Japan annually. It is known as Half-time Day ハーフタイム・デー. It is the day when the year reaches its symbolic turning point as six months have passed in the year and the remaining half of the year stretches ahead. It is a day to reflect on the first half of the year and to look forward, with renewed intention, to the second half.

However, here's what's interesting and I was today years old when I realized this: although June 30th is recognized by most as the "halfway" point, it isn't mathematically exact! In a standard 365-day year, June 30th is day 181, leaving 184 days remaining. Meaning the true center point actually falls on July 2nd, called the "exact middle day".

Even so, Half-Time Day carries a gentle symbolism, and it does officially end the first six months of the year. Had you ever heard of "Half-Time Day" before? And / or were you aware that June 30th is not the exact halfway mark of the year? Let us know in the comment section below.
