The description

This product is from Yamazaki Bakery's Egg & Ham. It is soft roll with a full slice of ham and a scrambled egg filling. Part of the company's rebake-friendly range.

The good

This is one of Yamazaki Bakery's breads that can be reheated in the oven. Moreover, they recommend reheating for best taste. I tried this product before and after putting it in a toaster oven and it is so much better after being placed in the oven for a few minutes. Reheating it brought out the flavor, the color, the smell. Regarding the latter, it smelled amazing after a couple of minutes in the oven. Before putting it in the oven all I could smell was bread. Afterward, I could smell the egg and bacon. The flavor was enriched too and the bacon went from a very unappetizing pale color to a dark, rich color. There was a crunch to the bacon also, whereas beforehand it was chewy.

The not so good

If you are buying this product for on the go and don't have anywhere to reheat it, you may think it doesn't deserve a 4-star rating. Everything about it - the taste, color and smell - is so much better after popping it in a toaster oven for a couple of minutes. I got this product for 138 yen, but it maybe more expensive in other stores. I am not sure it is worth much more than that price. I might pay up to a 150 yen for it. Its substantial enough for that price, all things considered. The filling itself is fairly simple. Although the combination of ham and egg is dependable, it is not particularly exciting. Those who prefer stronger flavors may find the seasoning too restrained, especially compared with convenience-store sandwiches or bakery items featuring cheese, mustard, or richer sauces.
