'Higanbana' Red Spider Lilies already coming into full bloom

I took this photo this morning, September 18th, 2026. As you can see, these red spider lilies, are already pretty much in full bloom. That's about three to four days earlier than an average year for this area of Kawagoe. And while I didn't take a photo of them yesterday, I can tell you that they weren't even at 50% yesterday. They just popped overnight. 

Red spider lilies have many different names; both in English and Japanese. In Japanese, "higanbana" or "manjushage" are probably the most common name for them. In English, they are most often called "Red Spider Lilies" in my experience, but other common names include "equinox flower", "hurricane flower", "Lycoris" and "Cluster Amaryllis".
