The description

Winter Chocolate Pocky (Fuyu no Kuchidoke) is a seasonal cocoa-finished version of the classic snack. The chocolate coating has a richer flavour and a softer melt that feels suited to colder months.

The good

I picked up this limited winter edition Chocolate Pocky while it was on special offer for 178 yen before tax, which felt like a reasonable price for a seasonal version. I noticed that there is a richer cocoa aroma compared to regular Chocolate Pocky. The coating seems a little more luxurious, with a smooth texture that melts in the mouth, just as the package claims, and creates a deeper chocolate flavor. It still has the familiar crispy biscuit stick at its center, so it remains recognizably Pocky while offering something a bit more special. It felt that bit more of a treat than the usual Pocky.

The not so good

I noticed in the store that while all the other Pocky flavors were in full supply, the "kuchidoke" flavor was running low. I got one of the last packs. Which suggests to me that it is popular. Which may in turn mean that it might be harder to come by than the regular Pocky. Another drawback is that because it is only seasonal, you can't get it all year round. If you really love the flavor you might want to stock up when it is on sale for the months when you won't be able to find it in the regular supermarkets. I got it on special offer and it was only 178 yen, but I think normally it is closer to 200 yen. I noticed that on Amazon it is 254 yen, including tax. I most often find that seasonal treats are cheaper in store than online, so if you want to pick a few up, I suggest sourcing them on offer in a supermarket.
