The description

This product is Zanetti Powder Cheese; an easy-to-use Italian-made grated dehydrated cheese sold in the refrigerator section of Gyomu Supermarket for 298 yen before tax.

The good

I picked up this Zanetti Powder Cheese at Gyomu Super for ¥298 before tax and thought it was a very reasonable price for an imported Italian product. One thing that immediately stood out to me was that it's actually made in Italy, which gives it a bit more authenticity than some of the generic grated cheeses on the market. The flavor is pleasantly savory and cheesy without being overpowering, making it easy to use on a wide variety of dishes. I also like that it isn't as pungent as some, with a smell as subtle as the taste. The shaker-style container is convenient.

The not so good

While I generally enjoyed Zanetti Powder Cheese, there are a few points that some shoppers may want to consider before buying. Although the flavor is pleasant, those who are looking for the bold, distinctive taste associated with freshly grated Parmesan or Pecorino may find it somewhat mild. The same characteristic that makes it approachable also means it lacks some of the depth and intensity that cheese enthusiasts might expect from an Italian product. The milder aroma is something I personally liked, but it could be viewed as a drawback by people who enjoy stronger cheeses. If you're hoping for a rich, pungent cheese experience, this product may come across as a little understated. Since it is a dehydrated powdered cheese, it also doesn't provide the same texture as fresh grated cheese. When used on hot dishes it melts into the food quickly, but it lacks the visual appeal and slightly chewy texture of freshly grated varieties.
