The description

Glico's Big Pucchin Pudding combines creamy custard pudding with rich caramel sauce in a classic Japanese dessert. This Halloween edition features a fun AR experience that lets users transform into a monster.

The good

Pucchin Pudding is one of Japan's most iconic desserts, and the BIG version gives you even more of the tasty treat. Moreover, this Halloween edition adds a little extra fun to an already enjoyable dessert. To use Glico's own words, the familiar combination of smooth custard pudding and rich caramel sauce delivers the comforting flavor that has made Pucchin Pudding a long-time favorite. The pudding has a pleasantly soft texture that jiggles satisfyingly when removed from its container, while the caramel provides just enough bitterness to balance the sweetness. What makes this seasonal version special is the Halloween-themed packaging. The lid features colourful seasonal artwork along with Glico's "Transform into a Monster" AR campaign. By scanning the lid with a smartphone, users can access an interactive Halloween experience featuring monster-themed content.

The not so good

I got this product on special offer at Donki, for just 98 yen (before tax). However, usually it is about 40 yen more expensive. Still, it's not an overly expensive product and is well worth the money if you are a pucchin pudding fan. While Big Pucchin Pudding remains a popular classic, this Halloween edition may not feel particularly different from the standard version. Aside from the seasonal packaging and AR campaign, the dessert itself is largely the same familiar pudding many shoppers have purchased before. Anyone hoping for a special Halloween flavour may be disappointed to discover that the biggest changes are cosmetic rather than culinary.
