Gunma Flower Day
Gunma Flower Day is on April 23rd annually. It is an anniversary associated with Gunma Flower Park. The park is set at the foot of Mt. Akagi in Maebashi. It is a spacious botanical park where the scenery shifts with the seasons.
The cherry blossom season is just finishing up, but there may still be some late blooming cherry blossoms in bloom. The azalea and wisteria are coming into season now. The park was once known for its tulips, but they don't seem to grow them anymore. But their 'Spring Bouquet Garden' boasts 30 different varieties of flowers blooming at the same time, including Icelandic Poppies which are pictured in this post.
Admission is 1200 yen for adults and 400 yen for children, with typical hours from 9 am to 5 pm (last entry at 4.30 pm). If you are in the area over Golden Week it might make a nice place to visit for some spring colors. Visitors can even pick certain flowers to create their own small bouquets, adding a nice touch to a spring visit.
