A day for Japan's beloved Meiji "delicious" milk

Meiji Oishii Milk Day 明治おいしい牛乳の日 (Meiji Oishii Gyunyu no hi) is on April 23rd annually. It celebrates one of Japan's most beloved milk brands: Meiji Oishii Milk. Oishii means "delicious" but I haven't translated it for the purpose of this post as it is the product name rather than a description of the milk!

The reason for the date of the anniversary is that the milk was first released nationwide on this date in 2002. It was presented to consumers, and still is, as fresh, high-quality milk. Meiji created the anniversary to highlight the appeal of its signature milk, produced using a 'natural taste' method designed to preserve the gentle sweetness and rich, mellow flavor of fresh raw milk. The result is a clean, refreshing finish that has made the product a staple in households across the country.

The photo in this post is actually a photo prop! You can put your head in the cap of the milk for a funny photo. I took it at one of Meiji's factory tour locations. Having been to a couple of their tours, I must admit I have a very good image of Meiji as a company and find their products to be high quality. However, I am not a fan of Japanese milk, being from a country (Ireland) with particularly delicious milk. But I will say that "Oishii" milk isn't as bad as the others.
