Toy Poodle Appreciation Day

I love that within Japan's numerous daily anniversaries and observance they often have an "appreciation" day for a particular dog breed. Today, October 12th, is one of those days; Toy Poodle Appreciation Day トイプードル ありがとうの日, because 10/12 can be read as "To (10) i (1) puー (2)", which sounds like an abbreviation for Toy Poodle.

Toy poodles consistently rank among Japan's most popular dog breeds and have often topped national popularity rankings. Their intelligence, friendly temperament, compact size, and distinctive curly coats have made them a favorite with dog lovers across the country. It's not uncommon to spot toy poodles on neighborhood walks, in parks, and at pet-friendly events throughout Japan.

The purpose of the day is simple: to show appreciation to the toy poodles that bring joy to their families. Owners are encouraged to spend time with their dogs, give them an extra cuddle, and express a heartfelt "thank you" for their companionship. Whether you share your home with a toy poodle or simply admire the breed, October 12 offers a lovely reminder to appreciate dogs.
