Simple Habits For Hand Care in Japan
Today, and October 11th annually, is Hand Care Day ハンドケアの日 in Japan. The commemorative day was established by Caetus Technology Co., Ltd., a company involved in healthcare and skincare product development. No doubt they have a hand cream in their product line-up!
The reason that October was chosen because October is when temperatures begin to drop and the air becomes noticeably drier. In addition, they chose the 11th because the numbers 10 (for the month of October) and 11 can be read as "te (10) ni ii (11)". The day was officially recognized by the Japan Anniversary Association in 2018.
As autumn settles in across Japan, many people begin to notice dry skin and rough hands caused by cooler temperatures and lower humidity. Hand Care Day serves as a reminder to start protecting the skin before winter arrives. Simple habits such as applying hand cream regularly, wearing gloves when cleaning, and avoiding overly hot water can help prevent dryness and irritation.
While often overlooked, our hands are constantly exposed to the elements and daily wear. Hand Care Day encourages people to give a little extra attention to their hands and maintain healthy, comfortable skin throughout the colder months.
