Coming Out Day in Japan

Japan has several official anniversaries and commemorations daily, registered with the Japan Anniversary Association. However, a noticeable absence is Coming Out Day カミングアウトデー, but it is a known observance, promoted by the NPO Babbling. Babbling supports people in sharing their true selves with those who matter most.

The date was chosen to coincide with National Coming Out Day in the United States. October 11 marks the anniversary of the 1987 Washington March, an event that became a significant catalyst for LGBT advocacy and community organization. It also reflects the founding date of the NPO Babbling, established on October 11, 2014.

Coming Out Day serves as a reminder of the importance of acceptance, understanding, and the freedom to be oneself. Through talks, community events, and opportunities for dialogue, the day aims to create a society where people can share who they are without fear and build more meaningful relationships based on honesty and respect.
