The eight requests at Earth Day Tokyo 2026

April 22nd is Earth Day in Japan and around the world. Earth Day is very active in Tokyo particular and each year there is a large Earth Day Tokyo event on in Yoyogi Park in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo. This year, 2026, it was on the weekend before Earth Day. In others, last weekend, April 18th and 19th. It was the 25th anniversary of the event.

I found it very interesting and commendable that they had eight requests of guests attending the event. They were:

  1. Bring your own dishes and bags - reusable plates, cups and bags were encouraged and people who showed them at the information booth could collect "Toku Points" which record eco-friendly actions in partnership with "updater".
  2. Bring used tempura oil - people brought household waste oil which was transformed into clean energy to power the event.
  3. Support the on-site blood donation
  4. Bring plastic bottle caps - the caps people brought were converted into electricity for the Youth Stage at the venue
  5. Bring a flower for peace
  6. Bring something to gift
  7. Answer the event survey
  8. Support the Inclusive Crowdfunding Project - contributions are used to support venue accessibility and the Inclusive Play Park
