Promoting Hawaiian's famous Loco Moco Dish

Promoting Hawaiian's famous Loco Moco Dish photo

Among the various anniversaries of July 11th in Japan annually is Loco Moco Start Day ロコモコ開きの日. It is a food-themed anniversary created by the Hawaii Tourism Authority to share the charm of Hawaiian cuisine with people in Japan.

The date comes from a wordplay on how July 11th can be read as "Natsu (7) ii (11)" meaning "good summer", associating summer with the dish. Loco Moco is said to help with summer fatigue and stamina. The goal of the day is simple and inviting; to encourage more people to enjoy the hearty Hawaiian dish "loco moco".

Loco Moco typically features a bed of rice topped with a hamburger patty, a sunny‑side‑up egg, and a rich gravy made from meat juices. It's a satisfying meal that has become one of Hawaii's most beloved staples. Loco Moco is relatively easy to find in Japan, you can even come across it at food trucks. The one pictured is dedicated to Loco Moco. The one pictured in this post is a dedicated loco moco truck; a fun reminder that you don’t have to travel to Hawaii to enjoy a taste of its cuisine!
