Genkidesu once asked what are our 100 yen best buys are, and this is very much up there on my top ten list. And it is one that I buy frequently. I find these melamine sponges brilliant for quick and convenient cleaning. Their small size makes it easy to target tight corners, faucet bases, and narrow grooves. They work with just water which is not just convenient, but feels a bit eco-friendly too. The 40 pack lasts a long time and at just one hundred yen it is a very affordable, accessible and convenient cleaning product to have to hand.

Because the cubes are small, they can wear down faster when tackling large or heavily stained areas. And when they wear down they break off in small pieces - they crumble essentially. That is why if I am tackling anything particularly grimy or a large area, I get a different size of the melamine sponges. The 100 yen stores have several different size options, as do most hardware stores too. By biggest peeve with the 100 yen store packs are that if you are not careful opening them the packaging can tear sending the sponges flying everywhere! Its happened to me more times than I care to admit! But if you take care opening the pack, the great thing is it is resealable so you can store the spares conveniently.
