First mosquito bite of the year

I got bitten by a mosquito this morning. My first bite of the year. In truth I did well to get to June 11th before getting my first bite. Especially as I actually haven't been wearing mosquito or insect repellant. But I was out of Japan from early May to early June, so that was the main reason I avoided a bite until now!

I have been out and about since I got back to Japan on June 3rd. But it has been very cloudy between then and now. As the days get hotter, the mosquitoes will avoid the midday sun. But right now, it's not that hot yet, so they were out today despite the sun. The first sun this week. Generally, they seem to prefer the shade.

I find it fascinating that mosquitoes never bit me in my first years in Japan. But ever since I got pregnant with my first child, they do bite me. At first, I thought it was because I was pregnant and had more blood pumping through me. But they have dined on me ever since! Has anyone else ever experienced mosquitoes only starting to feed on you after several years in Japan?
