Colchicum, a birthday flower of September 21st

One of the birthday flowers of September 21st annually is Colchicum, which is also known as Autumn Crocus, Meadow Saffron, and Naked Lady flower in English. In Japanese it is Coruchikamu コルチカム and Inu (dog) safuran 犬サフラン. 

Colchicum is a member of the meadow saffron family. The delicate pink, lilac, or white blooms emerge directly from the ground, often without any leaves, creating a striking display in gardens and parks. In Japan, colchicum typically blooms from September to October. I took the photo in this post in early October.

The flower's hanakotoba, or language of flowers, includes "Dangerous Beauty" and "My Best Days Are Past". The latter is also the meaning in English floriography. The former reflects its nature as a beautiful but poisonous plant.
