Meiji Milk Chocolate Revival, a Taste of 1926 Reimagined

In celebration of 100 years of Meiji Milk Chocolate, Meiji is rolling out several special anniversary releases this month. One highlight is the limited‑edition revival of the original 1926 bar, recreated with cacao blends used in the very first recipe.

For the revival bar they are using cacao beans from Trinidad and Tobago and Sao Tome and Principe - the same regions as in the very first release. Using modern techniques, Meiji recreates the flavor profile of that early recipe while drawing on a century of expertise in cacao blending. The result is a chocolate that highlights the character of each bean and offers a deep, fragrant cacao aroma.

The packaging also pays homage to the past, featuring the original 1926 design as pictured above. I took that photo at an excellent Meiji Chocolate Factory tour. On the back it features a reproduction of the first newspaper advertisement for the bar that was published in newspapers at the time. I don't know how widely available this reimagined edition will be, but I will certainly be on the look-out for it.

As a fan of Meiji as a company as well as their milk chocolate, I really want to try the revival version. Have you seen it or tried it yet?
