When I was perusing the cleaning products in the 100 yen store the other day, I was drawn to this melamine cleaner because I am a huge fan of the melamine sponges. I often use the sponges for cleaning water stains around the bath, so I was hopeful for this product. First, the positive; its only 100 yen (110 yen with tax). It's widely available in Daiso 100 yen stores. It only needs water, no additional cleaning products. The long handle helps you reach places easier. The sponge head is replaceable. Its light weight. Thanks to the hook in the top of the handle, you can store it be hanging which also helps it dry off.

But overall, I wasn't particularly happy with this product. The melamine didn't work as effectively as the standard melamine sponges. Even with a lot of elbow grease it didn't lift any water stains. Part of it is the handle reduces pressure too much and if you put too much pressure into the handle, it might snap. The sponge wears down faster than expected. And of course, disposable products are not great for the environment, even if they are convenient. It’s fine for light maintenance but not strong enough for deeper cleaning days. For the price, it’s still a handy tool, but compared to regular melamine blocks, it feels less efficient, hence a three‑star rating.
