A day for Japan's beloved yakitori

Yakitori Day 焼き鳥の日 is celebrated every year on August 10th in Japan. I think Yakitori is now a Japanese word that is known the world over, but in case it is unfamiliar to anyone - it is essentially various parts of chicken grilled on skewers over open flames. 

The reason August 10th, 8/10, was chosen for the anniversary is because it can be read as "Yaki (8) tori (10) ". The day was established by Funachu, a long-standing Tokyo based company that helped popularize modern yakitori. The owner of which is affectionately known as the "Father of Yakitori".

Whether enjoyed with salt or tare, yakitori’s charm lies in its incredible diversity: classic negima, tsukune, liver, heart, and more specialized cuts like kinkan, seseri, bonjiri, and sunagimo. Which is your favorite?
