Calbee Pop Up Store in Maruhiro Kawagoe

There is currently a Calbee Plus Pop Up Shop at Maruhiro Kawagoe, until August 17th 2026. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't what I encountered. I have been to various pop up stores over the years and they feel special. This one felt like it was crammed into a bit of free space in an aisle. 

However, the "Poterico Salad" made it all worthwhile! From what I can tell, potato salade Jagarico are deep fried so that they look and taste like a fried potato. However, they don't taste little like Jagarico and have a completely different texture. My daughters were underwhelmed and thought they didn't taste much different to regular fried potatoes. But I thought they tasted different enough and that they were really delicious.

My daughters had the ice-cream too, and they really liked that. The ice-cream has no link to Calbee from what I can tell. I thought it would be cool if the waffle cone was made out of Jagarico, but, alas, that was not the case! The only other thing of note about the pop-up is they sell some limited edition flavors of Calbee chips, such as Taco Rice and Tako-yaki flavors pictured above.
