Amazon Exhibition At Maruhiro Kawagoe

It is a tradition of mine to bring the kids to the annual exhibition at Maruhiro Kawagoe, so I brought my two youngest along to the department store today with the plan to visit the Amazon Exhibition. Thankfully, it was not the only plan for today, because upon arriving I knew it wasn't going to be as engaging as I would have hoped. My daughters agreed too, that they would prefer to spend time elsewhere, so we skipped this exhibition.

The main reasons were the size, set-up and cost. What wasn't apparent from the event post was the set-up of the exhibition. It is a walk-through exhibition with most of the animals in a small space behind glass. There is a small interactive zone, but they charge an additional 300 yen for interacting with one animal. It doesn't give a time period, so I got the impression that it is literally 'ONE' touch. That's on top of the 1000 yen fee for adults and 700 yen fee per child just to enter the space. It was apparent to me that we would be better off just visiting a zoo or a more interactive (and cheaper) animal petting zoo such as this one in Ageo.

However, we could see from the outside that there is a nice photo spot, only accessible to paying customers. We could also see that staff were taking commemorative photos for families, so that might make the exhibition worth it for some people. It is on until August 17th on the 5th floor of Maruhiro Kawagoe Department Store. It is beside a Calbee pop-up store - see my next post!
