Rose Campion, a Birthday Flower of August 19th

Rose Campion (Silene coronaria), known in Japanese as Suisensou スイセンノウ(酔仙翁) is one of the birthday flowers of August 19th annually. It is also the birthday flower of June 18th and August 26th.
It is a striking summer flower loved for its magenta blooms that really stand out against the silvery foliage of the plant. In Japan, it typically comes into season sometime between June and August. It thrives in the heat. Its velvety leaves give it the nickname Furannerusou in Japanese, which means "like flannel".
In the hanakotoba, the Japanese language of flowers, Rose Campion is said to mean ‘My love is unchanging.’ Perhaps this meaning comes from the way its vivid pink–magenta blooms shine against the plant’s soft, silvery-grey leaves and stems. The muted foliage makes the flower appear even more vibrant and alive.
