A day for the deep, layered and pleasant richness of taste
Today, and May 9th annually, is Koku Day. I have left the word in Japanese, because I can't think of just one word in English that adequately represents the Japanese meaning. "Koku" is a term that describes a deep, layered and pleasant richness of taste. Moreover, koku emerges when the five basic tastes (sweetness, umami, bitterness, saltiness, and acidity) are balanced in a harmonious way.
The "Koku Day" anniversary was created by AGF, the Tokyo based company behind the well-known Blendy coffee brand in Japan. THey chose May 9th for the anniversary because 5/9 can be read as "ko (5) ku (9)". The aim of the anniversary is to encourage people to relax with a cup of richly flavored Blendy Coffee (or tea). And they have several options. They offer coffee in drips packs, instant blends, sticks and bottled varieties.
I have to admit that I am quite a fan of their "stick coffee"! They have several different kinds. They are very convenient and even have some in my emergency kit and I bring them in my hand luggage when I go abroad too! You will find some reviewed on City-cost by ekimsaido and I hope to add a few reviews today too. Do you like Blendy coffee? If so, which type?

Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
