An Annual Air Awareness Campaign in Japan

Today, is Sky Day in Japan. It marks the first day of a wider observance known as Air Awareness Campaign Period, sometimes called Sky or Air Week in English. In Japanese: Sora no junkan 空の旬間. It is on for ten days from September 20th to 30th annually. 

The period is dedicated to promoting public understanding of aviation and the role it plays in everyday life. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism states that the initiative aims to deepen public awareness of aviation through educational and community events. Sky Week encourages greater interest in air travel, airports, the aviation industry and even air sports.

On select dates during Sky Week, airports and aviation facilities across the country host special activities for visitors. These often include airport tours, aviation classes, aircraft displays, and opportunities to learn about air traffic control, maintenance, and other behind-the-scenes operations. The official Sky Day Net website lists events held nationwide, helping connect people with the world of aviation in an accessible and family-friendly way.
