Broad Dwarf Daylily, a birthday flower of July 24th

The Yellow Daylily, known as the Nikko Daylily in Japan (Nikkou Kisuge ニッコウキスゲ) and the Broad Dwarf Daylily in English, is one of the birthday flowers of July 24th annually. It is also the birthday flower of June 4th. It has a formal Japanese name too: "Zenteika". It is a gorgeous summer flower with bright yellow petals. 

The flower's season stretches from May to August, with its peak in early to mid-summer. I took the photo in this post on June 29th. They typically bloom the last week of June and the first week of July in Saitama Prefecture. But they bloom at different times in natural colonies in places such as Senjōgahara, Kirifuri Kōgen, Oze, and Kurumayama, 

True to its genus name Hemerocallis, which comes from the Greek words for “day” and “beauty,” each blossom opens in the morning and fades by evening, making it a classic one‑day flower. In the Japanese language of flowers, Nikkōkisuge carries the meanings “renewed each day" and “a person who brings peace".
