With Sports Day just around the corner...

What's your favorite way to stay active in Japan? Back in my home country I had a gym membership because I had an office job and lived in suburbia, so it wasn't as easy as it is here in the countryside to just get out and go on long walks or cycle. Those are my two favorite ways to keep my body moving and stay reasonably fit! It's also nice because I have places that are walkable/cyclable for errands (bank, post office, supermarket, multiple convenience stores, a farmer's market, etc.) so it saves a bit on petrol costs. How about you? Would love to get your thoughts in the comments!

Love to travel, interested in J-beauty products and consider myself a convenience store snack aficionado. Navigating the ever-present challenges of expat life, particularly about my TCK's (third culture kids).

Traditional Japanese martial arts. The art itself is slow, methodical, and to do it, well, requires fitness. So I cycle a lot. I ride my standard three-speed shopping bike anywhere and everywhere. On some weekends, I ride 15 to 30 km. On excursions, I often rent or borrow a shopping bike to visit the sights. If no bike is available at a destination, I travel on foot 10,000 steps or way more. Weekend trips keep me spry!

I'm a big walker. I like to cycle too, but not as much this year. I haven't rented a car in my current location so I walk and use public transport, or very occasionally cycle. I easily rack up 15,000 steps when I'm going somewhere further afield. I also walk to and from work here too.

@TonetoEdo I always thought I'd join a martial art, but haven't done it yet. I am the only one in my family who doesn't do one!

Today, November 22nd, is Wakayama Prefecture Hometown Birthday. What do you most associate with Wakayama Prefecture? To be honest, I realized in writing about this 'birthday', that I know next to nothing about Wakayama Prefecture. I'm really interested to hear what your image of the prefecture is. Your "buy it for life" purchases in Japan

There's a reddit community I really enjoy reading called r/buyitforlife. As the name suggests, people outline purchases that they've made that truly stand the test of time. Kitchen items, clothing, shoes, etc... What have been your "buy it for life" items here?
