I'm getting one of my New Year's Resolutions ticked off, and have a short trip planned to Shimane in late May. I'm going to visit Matsue, Izumo and Yasugi. Apart from the main to-do's there, does anyone have any experience with some off the beaten path spots? Cute cafes, interesting museums, anywhere you'd like to share?

Hallo, may I ask where it is the best to buy Shinkansen tickets? One for myself 54 years old (YAYKS) and one for my son , 21 years old studen. We are both Canadians living permanently in Norway. We want to fit in 7 days pass, that would cover Tokyo-Kyoto-Hiroshima-Fukuoka. thank you kindly. Is there any discount for students?

I´m planing to visit the Akita and Niigata prefecture at the end of March. What about the weather during that season? Is it still snowing? If yes how about the train situation? I guess because those prefectures are used to snow there will be no problem... Some experience of people living in these areas will be helpful!

I'm looking to buy a hybrid bike for local and medium distance rides in and around Tokyo. I'm a bit of a cheapskate so I'm just wondering if anyone can suggest the minimum amount of yen I should be spending to get something reliable and that looks cool. Brands and shops would also be welcome.
