My FIRST Log! Would You Like to Hear it?

In my last post I asked what you would like to hear from me now I have left. I was digging through some stuff the other day and I found my very FIRST book log that I kept when I toured Japan originally. I was thinking about typing it up and reminding myself of what my younger self thought of Japan. Would you like to hear about what I got up to? I'm not sure if I can even remember! HA!!

That's so cool that you chronicled your adventures right from the early days -- I honestly wish I'd been better at doing that myself over my time here. Definitely sounds like it would be a fun thing to share if you're willing to!

I really wish I had kept better logs of my first days in Japan. Its all a blur! And I normally record everything, but didn't my first trip as an exchange student nor as an employee in a huge conglomerate. And it was before the days of Google Maps, which now at least keeps a record of the locations I've been to. Its great that you have those records and it would be very interesting to read.

That's cool you're willing to share your log. In my first year, I wrote long email letters to my family and friends a few times a month. It helped me keep perspective while amusing people back home. Unfortunately, the texts were lost (the laptop got stolen).

Are you still with us? I'd love to read a newcomer's perspective. I've been here so long, and came in a different era, so I don't know what recent foreign residents go through. If you're still up for it, please do share!

Anyone else getting a database error after you log in? So far, it looks like I can still write posts, but I had trouble logging in and after log in my home page looks different to normal with a "database error" message.

Condiments in your fridge?

Just for fun! I was thinking the other day how different the contents of my fridge are to the fridge I grew up with! Just one example, I always have soy sauce in my fridge and usually at least one other unopened bottle in the cupboard. There was never soy sauce in my fridge growing up. And the friends I grew up with don't have soy sauce in their fridges even now. But my Uni friends all have soy sauce in their fridges, because they all lived in Japan for at least a year. I was just wondering what things do you have in your fridge here that you probably wouldn't have in your fridge in your home country had you never lived here.

Moving house process

I've been in my apartment for nearly 7 years. I've got my eye on an apartment one station closer to work. But I forgot what it was like to move in here! It was all a bit traumatic... Have you got some packing tips, suggestions for how to move your household goods, and what to save for last?

Golden Week 2025 plans?

This year's Golden Week gives us Tuesday, April 29th, and then potentially a four-day weekend from May 3rd to 6th. How are you intending to spend the break? Will you travel, "staycation", or dare I ask, work through it?
