Would you like me to continue?

You'll never believe this... it's now 2023 and I left Japan nearly 6 years ago. I didn't post on this site for an extremely long time. In fact, I almost forgot I had this account. Whilst I don't have a Japanese phone number anymore (which means I can't convert my points) I was wondering if anyone who sees this post would like me to continue talking about Japan? If so, what would you like me to talk about?

A twenty year old something, who came to experience working life and travel in Japan. What will she experience? What will she see? What will she do? Find out in this amazing travel blog and Jvlog!

That was the ORIGINAL tag line. Now I have left, but will continue updating.

I think any posts about the things that were difficult living in Japan (+ how you may have overcome them) would be interesting! Perhaps even an article about the reverse culture shock of returning home? I'd love to read about that - I know some of the contributors on this site intend to stay in Japan permanently, but myself and my husband are both foreign citizens, so it's extremely likely we'll end up in our home country one day. Knowing how you may have navigated those challenges would be really insightful!

To add to the suggestions from @genkidesu, you could tell us about what Japanese cultural aspects you've preserved or discarded. Does your region have a strong Japanese community presence - either foreign residents or descendants of Japanese immigrants? What's different or reflects your experience in Japan? Does the field you work in or cultural pursuits have a connection to your Japan experience or is this hard to achieve where you are?

It would be interesting to hear what you miss from Japan. Also, what you find really expensive back home now after living in Japan and / or what you find cheaper at home. For example, I can't get over how expensive the dentist is in Ireland, with or without insurance, and how cheap it is here, even without insurance.

@BigfamJapan that's one of the things that makes me not want to move back to Australia, the cost of living is so high there compared to here! Dentists are exorbitant in Australia as well but really quite economical here.

One of my fav topics is always "reverse culture shock" and how you felt after you got back home!

What sakura apps / websites are you using in 2024?

What websites or Apps are you using to keep track of the bloom stages of cherry blossoms in 2024? I usually use a mix of Tenki.jp, Yahoo and Jorudan and another one that I have forgotten! (I delete them at the end of each season to free up space on my phone). I occasionally use the app from JMA, but I don't like its set up. Are there any other Apps or websites you recommend? TIA

What's in your toshikoshi soba?

What do you put in your toshikoshi soba? One year I sauteed some chicken and naganegi to start a broth augmented with tsuyu, cooked the soba separately, and served the broth with kamaboko slices.

Transferring Pension

I'm currently sorting through EVERYTHING I bought back from Japan with me, so you'll get all your new blogs soon. I came across some documents that I actually completed when I came back from Japan, which was to do with pensions. This took me a while to figure out because it was complicated. Would you like to know how to transfer your pension to you from Japan? People say you can't. The things is... you can.

My FIRST Log! Would You Like to Hear it?

In my last post I asked what you would like to hear from me now I have left. I was digging through some stuff the other day and I found my very FIRST book log that I kept when I toured Japan originally. I was thinking about typing it up and reminding myself of what my younger self thought of Japan. Would you like to hear about what I got up to? I'm not sure if I can even remember! HA!!
