Living in Akita

A large percentage of the rice distributed in Japan is grown in Akita Prefecture. Due to this large rice output, sake and other rice related products are also produced in the region. A great number of famous onsen are found in Akita Prefecture, and many Japanese people travel there every year to visit them. Unfortunately, the population of Akita Prefecture is in decline. This prefecture has the lowest population of children in Japan, at only 11.2% of the total. The population of the entire prefecture is barely at 1 million, with 323,000 people living in Akita Prefecture's capital, Akita City.
