Save a Bundle with the JR Pass
If you're planning on visiting Japan or if you know anyone who is planning a visit to Japan, you absolutely MUST look into the JR pass!
When my mom and grandma came to visit, they had the pass and saved over ¥20,000, and I know people who have saved more. Although they're both 100% Japanese, they qualify since they don't live here and have a tourist stamp in their (Canadian) passport.
I wrote a quick cost-benefit analysis on my blog, Trekking with Becky, that shows how much money they saved and how they did; there's also info on how you can calculate how much you can save with your plans.

I'm half-Japanese originally from Canada, and I've been living in Japan since Sept. 2010.
