First time to enjoy Makinohara tea foods

As an Asian, I have been very passionate about green tea since I was a child. After coming to Japan, I also tasted many tea drinks with Japanese characteristics. This time I had the opportunity to taste Shizuoka’s green tea products, and I wanted to share my experience with everyone.

Shizuoka Prefecture leads the list with 40% of the total tea production area in Japan. The central tea producing area of Shizuoka Prefecture is Shizuoka City. Therefore, Shizuoka City is undoubtedly the tea capital of Japan.

First up is Shizuoka matcha syrup. This is my first time to try matcha-flavored syrup. It is different from what I expected. Matcha neutralizes the sweetness of the honey and with a touch of matcha flavor, this syrup tastes very refreshing. I ate it with breakfast bread, but I think that in summer it will be more refreshing and delicious with traditional Japanese desserts.

In addition to the taste, the packaging of syrup is very user-friendly, and the inverted design makes it very convenient to use.

The second item I tried was Shizuoka Makinohara Sencha - a green tea that I like very much. It has a green color and a long-lasting aroma. Later I learned that the Makinohara Plateau has one of the largest tea-growing areas in Japan. In spring, you can enjoy the beauty of a large green tea garden. Makinohara City's specialty "Shizuoka Makinohara Tea" is mostly deep-steamed tea, and is highly praised for its quality and flavor.

The last dessert that surprised me the most was Shizuoka Matcha Ryufu, which is a matcha-flavored Japanese dessert. This dessert is designed in the shape of a leaf which reminds us of Japanese matcha tea. Although the taste is not particularly sweet, the fragrance of the matcha is better highlighted because it is not sweet. There is a lot of sugar on the surface of the dessert adding a special texture which I like very much. The packaging of the dessert is entirely white, which is very Japanese.

Receiving these three products with Shizuoka and Makinohara's unique tea culture allowed me to experience Japan’s Shizuoka tea culture again.

I look forward to having the opportunity to go to Shizuoka to experience Japan’s matcha and sencha culture in person.
