Jagarico Report: Kanto Nori Dashi Review

The variety of Jagarico flavors always surprises me. No matter what your tastes are, there probably was (or there probably is going to be in the future) a flavor that suits you perfectly. Recently, for you Japanese flavor lovers, the limited edition "Kanto Nori Dashi" flavor has hit the shelves!

If you didn't know, Kanto is a region in Japan. It includes the Greater Tokyo Area and encompasses seven prefectures: Gunma, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Saitama, Tokyo, Chiba, and Kanagawa. Because I live in Kanagawa and purchased it there, I'm not sure if this is a region-specific flavor or not.

Now, I'm not too sure what makes this flavor specifically Kanto. If anyone could enlighten me, that would be great. Is Kanto known for mixing those two flavors together? Or is Kanto-style dashi broth a thing? I have no idea...

What I do know is that these were really yummy! They don't look that great (the little bits of nori within each stick looked unappealing to me) but they were packed with flavor. I couldn't taste the nori as much as I could see it, but the dashi flavor was really strong.

Because of this, it had a strong salty flavor. I was expecting it to be a bit more fishy or katsuo tasting due to the picture on the package, but I didn't really get any hints of that at all! If someone gave me one of these in a blind taste test, I don't think I would be able to identify that specific flavor, but I would say they taste uniquely Japanese-y.

I don't think I'd purchase these again because they really didn't wow me. However, I was able to easily finish the entire package and felt good about it afterwards.
