Yamagata Cherries

Yamagata Cherries photo

Normally we don't splurge on fruit much. We do get spoiled a little bit on occasion because my mother in law and my students are generous.

My sister in law is from Yamagata Prefecture. She lives in Tokyo (with my husband's brother), and her parents sent them some cherries. She then passed some on to my mother in law in Chiba.

Then my mother in law sent some of them all the way to us in Fukuoka Prefecture.

We finished them off without having anyone else to share them with.

The cherries from Yamagata are similar to Rainier cherries from the Pacific Northwest. I've only tried them once before this and they're really nice, but the season is short and they're expensive.

They are worth buying from time to time... but I think the season is over this year.
