Free A/C pushing workers to return to offices this summer
As we're all bracing for another probable record-breaking summer, a new survey from the Job Research Institute has shown an interesting (but maybe unsurprising?!) trend.
The 2025 Summer Working Conditions Survey found that nearly 75% of workers plan to head into the office during summer, with a big motivator being the advantage of their employer's air conditioning. A lot of us have probably noticed increases over recent years in our home electricity bills, which makes heading into an office environment and using their A/C a cost-effective alternative to working from home.
That said, the survey found that the heat still takes a toll, with over 80% of respondents reporting a drop in motivation during summer. While most workplaces have introduced basic heatstroke prevention efforts like temperature control and "Cool Biz" dress codes, more than two-thirds of workers surveyed felt that these measures weren't enough.
If you have the option to work from home or head into an office, will you take advantage of their A/C this summer?
