Things I didn't try early on: fruit picking
I'm convinced that the quality of fruit here in Japan is better than anywhere else I've lived, but it took me a while (probably about 2-ish years!) of living here until I would start making conscious efforts to find places where we could go picking ourselves.
I think it's awesome that even if you're based in Tokyo, there are places to go pick your own fruit not far away. For instance, the mikan orchard below (I can't remember the name of it for the life of me) was one we went to, and it was in Musashimurayama if I recall correctly!

This was a long while ago, but marked one of our first fruit-picking adventures here as a family!
We've also picked grapes, strawberries, apples, blueberries...not only is it a great activity if you have kids, but you get to eat what you pick, too. It helps us have conversations with our kids about the importance of farmers and to appreciate their efforts in growing food for us to eat!
