An appreciation for peach season in Japan
Before moving here, peaches were a fruit I liked, but not to the extent that I LOVE them here. Japanese peaches to me are a top tier fruit, with amazing flavor and a delicious smell before you even taken a bite.
It gives me a good understanding as to why people buy them as gifts, since the really fancy ones feel almost too perfect to eat. Even now, years after moving here, peach season is one of the things I look forward to most, and is one of the things that makes summer bearable. I'll happily splurge on a couple every now and then, because I know they're worth every yen. Then there's all the peach treats at cafes and convenience stores!

Peach waffles at a local cafe. Delicious!!
People often talk about Japan's incredible sushi or ramen, but to me, summer peaches deserve just as much attention. If you're lucky enough to be here during peach season, don't leave without trying one. The downside is that they'll probably ruin peaches for you anywhere else!
