People choosing at home, budget friendly entertainment for GW break
As the Golden Week holiday period looms large, a new survey by Amazon Fire TV has shown that many people are opting to stay home or visit family rather than travel, with finances playing a major role in those decisions.

In a survey of 1000 people aged 20 to 69 planning time off during the holiday, roughly 70% said they would spend Golden Week at home or with their parents. The top reasons? Avoiding crowds (58.5%) and keeping costs low (57.2%). Rising prices appear to be influencing consumer behavior quite heavily, with around 40% of respondents setting a holiday budget of under 10,000 yen.
For those staying home, watching content (such as movies, streaming shows, and YouTube) ranked as one of the most popular activities. In fact, three of the top five answers for how people plan to spend their time involved some form of content viewing, but likely that’s to be expected given that the survey was conducted via Amazon.
Among those planning on doing some binge watching, more than 70% said their ideal setup would include a large-screen TV with high image and sound quality, highlighting a preference for a quality experience without the cost of going out.
Are you planning on doing any binge watching of shows or movies during the Golden Week break? What’s on your to-watch list?
