The description
This product is a red bean paste and butter scone sandwich, and you can find it at Starbucks stores for a limited time. It's priced at 390 yen including tax.
The good
This red bean paste and butter scone sandwich from Starbucks is a fun option to try out if you appreciate fusion desserts. As the name gives away, it's a scone that has been cut in half, and it comes filled with a chunk of butter and a slather of red bean paste. Personally, I feel like the combination of flavors works together surprisingly well, with the butter and red bean paste giving off the sweet-but-salty taste. Price wise, I feel like this is reasonable, too. It's not a bargain, but I have paid more for scones here at dedicated bakeries, so this didn't feel exorbitant to me (although I wouldn't say it was a bargain, either...)
The not so good
The big thing here is that red bean is a pretty polarizing flavor -- I feel like people either love it or hate it, without much fence sitting in between. Obviously I don't think you're going to go out of your way to purchase this if you don't like red beans, though. Also, I do think the combo of red bean paste + butter isn't going to be to everyone's liking, either, and it's a reasonably sized butter chunk sandwiched in there as well. Overall though, if you're a scone lover and you like fusion-style flavors/desserts, I would still say this one is worth trying (mainly if you're a red bean fan). Happy eating, and enjoy! :)
