Is there anywhere to coolcation in Japan?!

I try and keep up to date with travel trends as much as I can, and a term that I keep seeing doing the rounds of late is the "coolcation". Basically, people aren't so keen about sweating their way through a vacation, and they're opting for destinations that are a bit more temperate - e.g., trading Italy or Spain in summer for the Nordics.

Several years back now, my family and I did a trip to Hakodate in August, and it was quite nice weather-wise, but these days I think that might not be the case anymore! I remember reading last summer that parts of Hokkaido were facing temps in the very high 30s Celsius, which sounds just about as miserable as anywhere else here during that timeframe!

When you're making summer plans, do you factor in the heat? Do you know of anywhere that a "coolcation" is possible here?

Oh, yes. Some summers, I've braved the heat to visit places inland in the Kanto region. Other times, I have opted for seaside locations that feel cooler. I wrote about delving deep into off-the-beaten-track travel spots, featuring Odawara. https://www.city-cost.com/blogs/TonetoEdo/Mdol0-living_shopping_kanagawa I visited in July, hot but tolerable because of ocean breezes.
