Is sleep the best health hack in Japan?
Do you do anything to improve your sleep quality here in Japan? It's one of those questions that seems simple, but a recent survey from MoonMoon's "Mattress Otaku" platform seems to suggest the answer is a little more complicated!

Around 80% of people in Japan agree that sleep is the most cost-effective health investment, and I think it's easy to see why. Quality sleep supports a whole range of things, from immune function to concentration and mood, all of which are essential for staying healthy.
At the same time, the survey had a gap between awareness and action. The most common response for a monthly sleep budget (e.g. improving futons, pillows, etc.) was nothing, and nearly two thirds of people preferring to keep costs under 1,000 yen. With rising prices affecting everyday life, many folks seem reluctant to spend money even on something as fundamental as sleep, and I get it since there are so many other things that seem more important on the surface. However, nearly half of respondents reported feeling dissatisfied with their sleep, which suggests the impact on health is already being felt!
In saying all of that, there seems to be a growing focus on no-cost solutions. Many people are turning to lifestyle changes such as improving diet, exercising regularly, and limiting screen time before bed, which can all still have a meaningful effect on sleep quality without spending a single yen.
Are you taking any steps to improve your sleep quality here, whether they're paid or unpaid things?
